"Rearing Spiritual Children to Serve the Savior", By Dr. Terry Coomer. Click Here

As a pastor for many years I have become greatly concerned and greatly burdened over the number of children who grow up not to serve the Saviour from Christian homes. There seems to be a real lack of practical, spiritual, biblical training going on in this apostate hour. I am also greatly concerned about the number of Christian families that are blowing apart and the tragedy that results from these lives. It is the desire of this ministry to help, encourage, and to provide training and biblical help to families to not lose their children and for parents to know what it means to be godly parents, husbands, and wives. Please feel free to contact us for more information. Contributions and support are appreciated to provide for the work of the ministry.

Are You Rearing A Sluggard?

Dear Friends of For the Love Of The Family,

Rarely do I send out an article by another writer, but I recently read an excellent article by Dr. David Cloud, on The Sluggard. www.wayoflife.org. It is a part of a Bible study book on the book of Proverbs that Dr. Cloud has written and published. Much of the book of Proverbs talks about the sluggard. In a society of Christianity that is fully engulfed in "me", we are seeing "The Sluggard" all around us. Selfishness is universal and we have many masks to cover our selfishness. Many parents when they do get saved are a product of their environment and raise their children by the environment in which they were raised, which is selfishness. One of the hardest things to overcome in our selfish society is to understand that Christ came that we might learn how to serve others. Mark 10:43-45, But so shall it not be among you: but whosoever will be great among you, shall be your minister (servant). And whosoever of you will be the chiefest, shall be servant of all. For even the Son of man came not to be minister, and to give his life a ransom for many.

Idols of the Heart

James 1:13-17, Let no man say when he is tempted, I am tempted of God: for God cannot be tempted with evil, neither tempeth he any man:  But every man is tempted when he is drawn away of his own lust, and enticed.  Then when lust hath conceived, it bringeth forth sin: and sin when it is finished, bringeth forth death.  Do not err, my beloved brethren.  Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above, and cometh down from the Father of lights, with whom is no variableness, neither shadow of turning.

After several years of counseling people concerning their spiritual needs I have found the great need is to deal with the idols of the heart.  Every spiritual problem is a problem of the heart.  The reason we have many issues in our lives is because our heart wanders.  Every child in rebellion is because their heart wanders.  There is no Biblical change in the life of a Christian unless we get specific about idols of the heart.  God has given us a tremendous mechanism.  When we get saved, the Holy Spirit comes to indwell us.  God engages us in the heart, inner man, or mind which are all synonymous in the Scripture.

False Judgments

One of the areas that I believe greatly harms the cause of Christ today is False Judgments.  As most of you know I counsel several people outside our church because of For The Love Of The Family.  I am contacted all the time because of the hurts people experience in their lives, ministries, and in their churches.  In the last few months, a Bible principle has been brought to my attention several times.  In fact, many times over the last few years.  It is almost like the devil puts blinders on God's people when this subject comes up. The principle is clearly outlined in  Proverbs 18:13, "He that answereth a matter before he heareth it, it is folly and shame unto him." What is this verse talking about?  It means I hear both sides of a story before I make a Biblical judgment. Sadly in the day in which we live Christians are all the time jumping to conclusions because of something someone said and they do not have all the facts or even bothered to find out all the facts. They just listened to one side or a side that was repeated several times from others and never spoke to the other side to find out the facts.  Clearly a violation of Scripture and hurts many people and the cause of Christ.  Rule of thumb spiritually per Proverbs 18:13, "Don't make any judgments until you have heard both sides of a story".
