As a pastor for many years I have become greatly concerned and greatly burdened over the number of children who grow up not to serve the Saviour from Christian homes. There seems to be a real lack of practical, spiritual, biblical training going on in this apostate hour. I am also greatly concerned about the number of Christian families that are blowing apart and the tragedy that results from these lives. It is the desire of this ministry to help, encourage, and to provide training and biblical help to families to not lose their children and for parents to know what it means to be godly parents, husbands, and wives. Please feel free to contact us for more information. Contributions and support are appreciated to provide for the work of the ministry.
Prescription Drugs and Teenagers
When Amanda was 14 years of age, she had the last of four sinus surgeries. The best part of the whole process, according to Amanda, was that she received hydrocodone or a common pain pill called Vicodin, Lortab, Norco, etc, every time. She took some of the pills for her pain and brought the rest, along with some medications she'd stolen from her mom, to parties at her friends' houses. There, she and her friends would get high on those and other prescription drugs. Forget BYOB. For some teenagers, parties today are of the bring-your-own-pills variety.
Teenagers today will bring whatever they can get their hands on: Vicodin, Percocet, Percodan, Oxycontin and other pain killers; antianxiety medications like Xanax, Valium, Klonopin, Ativan; stimulants like Adderall and Ritalin; and over-the-counter (OTC) drugs. Then they begin the dangerous game of prescription drug and OTC roulette.
Getting the Heart of the Child
Matthew 22:37-39, Jesus said unto him, Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind. This is the first and great commandment. And the second is like unto it, Thou shalt love thy neighbor as thyself.
Proverbs 4:23, Keep thy heart with all diligence; for out of it are the issues of life.
As I have studied the Bible on the subject of the home, children, and marriage, something that is so important and so very much missed today is getting the heart of the child. Proverbs 23:26, My son, give me thine heart, and let thine eyes observe my ways. The desire of For The Love of The Family is to help others in the area of the home, children, and marriage. Depending on statistics and how they are taken, consistently we see anywhere from 60 to 80 percent of all children who grow up in an Independent Baptist home do not go on to serve God. In fact, in many instances the problems of their lives are destructive for themselves and destructive to others. I recently had someone write to me and say, “I want to get my child’s heart. I do not want them to be a robot and then go off into destruction when they leave the programmer.” Interesting thought. Much of what goes on today is just that. Our children are destroyed because we do not see it as a heart issue.
The Thought Life of the Christian
Philippians 4:6-8, Rejoice in the Lord always and again I say, Rejoice. Let your moderation be known unto all men. The Lord is at hand. Be careful for nothing; but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known unto God. And the peace of God, which passeth all understanding, shall keep your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus. Finally, brethren, whatsoever things are true, whatsoever things are honest, whatsoever things are just, whatsoever things are pure, whatsoever things are lovely, whatsoever things are of good report; if there be any virtue, and if there be any praise, think on these things. II Corinthians 10:5, Casting down imaginations, and every high thing that exalteth itself against the knowledge of God, and bringing into captivity every thought to the obedience of Christ.
Have you ever given much thought to how your thought life affects your fellowship and ultimately your walk with God? The Bible has many references to the believer's thinking. Some of the references are to bad thinking and some references to good thinking. The battle ground for the Christian is the mind because the devil works upon the mind. He knows if he controls the mind of the person, he controls that person.
